How can we help?
Guides for getting started, Pro licenses and the most common questions.
Install and turn on
- Install HushMask from the Chrome Web Store or Microsoft Edge Add-ons.
- Pin it: click the puzzle icon in the toolbar, then the pin next to HushMask.
- Open the site you want to share and click the HushMask icon.
- Click “Enable on this site”. Your browser asks for permission for this one site only.
Mask elements and columns
- In the Elements tab choose “Mask element”, then click what you want to hide.
- Use the bar at the top of the page to switch between One element, Similar (every item like it) and Table column.
- Click “Done” when finished. Masks are saved automatically.
- To remove a mask, choose “Unmask element” and click it, or remove all masks from the Elements tab.
Draw regions
- In the Regions tab choose “Draw a region” and drag a rectangle over anything.
- Hover a region and click the label in its top-right corner to choose where it shows: this page, this exact address, or the whole site.
- For content inside tabs or panels, choose “Draw a region in an area”, pick the area first, then draw inside it.
Panic shortcut
- Press Alt+Shift+H to hide the whole page immediately. Press it again to bring it back.
- Change the shortcut from the bottom of the HushMask popup, which opens your browser’s shortcut settings.
Activate HushMask Pro
- Buy Pro on the pricing page. Your license key is shown after payment and emailed to you.
- Open HushMask, go to Settings → General → License.
- Paste your key and click Activate. Pro turns on immediately.
- Each key works on up to 3 browsers. Deactivate a browser from the same screen before you stop using it.
Lost key or used all your browsers
- Go to the Manage license page and enter the email you used at checkout.
- Open the link we send you. It shows your key and every browser where it is active.
- Click “Deactivate” next to a browser you no longer use to free its place.
Troubleshooting
A mask doesn’t appear after the site changed
If the site’s layout changed, a saved mask may no longer find its element. The Settings tab warns you about masks that were not found on the page. Remove and re-create them.
The popup says the page is not supported
Browsers do not allow extensions on their own pages (chrome://, edge://, the Web Store) or in the built-in PDF viewer.
Something inside an embedded frame isn’t masked
Frames from another website need their own rules: open that site directly and turn HushMask on there.
Activation says the limit is reached
Your key is active on 3 browsers already. Free one on the Manage license page, then activate again.
Questions, answered
Will people watching my screen see the masks?
Yes. HushMask changes the page itself, so everyone sees the masked version: you, your recording and the people on the call. It does not create a private view that only you can see.
Does HushMask upload anything?
No. Masking runs entirely in your browser and your masks are stored locally. The only time HushMask contacts our server is to check a Pro license key, and that request contains just the key and a random installation ID.
What does “one site at a time” mean on the free plan?
The free version works on one website (one hostname, such as admin.example.com) at a time, with as many masks as you like there. To use it on another site, HushMask asks you to replace the first one, and offers to export a backup first. Pro removes the limit.
Is Pro a subscription?
No. Pro is a one-time payment of $29. You keep it, and updates to the extension are included.
How many computers can I use Pro on?
One license works on up to 3 browser installations at the same time. You can free a place at any time from the Manage license page, for example after you reinstall your computer.
Do I need to be online?
No. Saved masks never depend on the network. Pro checks the license in the background once a day and keeps working offline for 90 days.
What happens to my masks if my license stops working?
They keep working. A license problem never switches masks off, because that could expose data. You would only be unable to add masks on extra sites until it is fixed.
Which browsers are supported?
Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS. Other Chromium browsers usually work too. Firefox is planned.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. If HushMask is not right for you, email us within 30 days of purchase for a full refund.
Still stuck?
Email support@hushmask.com. We usually reply within one business day.
